Illustrated below are three of the higher values of the 1947-52 George the 6th New Zealand definitives. the values shown are the 1 Shilling (red-brown and carmine), 1 Shilling and threepence ((red-brown and blue) and the 2 Shilling (brown-orange and green). Two different portrait plates were used during the issue which can be seen plainly in the 1 and 2 Shilling examples (in plate 2 the diagonals of the background were strengthened giving the effect of a more deeply shade background) Some of the issue was also overprinted for official use with the type 4 overprint (joined cross bars on the "f") as shown on one of the 1 and 2 Shilling values.
