Below are illustrated the 4 Pies issue of the Cochin Maharajas with some of the surcharge, official overprint, recess and litho printings and die varieties that make it such a fascinating and frustrating area for collectors. Another variety not illustrated here is the sideways watermark of the 4 pies of Sri Rama Varma the 1st Maharaja of Cochin. (The first stamp on the top left corner). Below can be seen details of the difference in recess and litho printings of Sri Rama Varma the 3rd. Below that the 4 pies "official" of Sri Kerala Varma with altered value in English and Indian script using the second of the 2 Dies of the issue.
